Gordon Ties Long Jump Record Friday

Memphis Invitational continues Saturday.
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – University of Memphis freshman Tanalya Gordon saved her best for the final regular-season meet of the season. On Friday, she tied the school record in the women's long jump to highlight first-day action at the 2019 Memphis Invitational.

Action in the Memphis Invitational continues Saturday at the Billy J. Murphy Soccer/Track and Field Complex on the University's Park Avenue campus. The field events begin at 10 a.m. (CT), with the running events to start at 12 p.m. (CT). Admission is $5 (cash only at the gate), but children 12 and under are admitted free.

Gordon jumped 20-3 (6.17m) to tie the school record set by Tyranda Mosby in 1996. The 20-3 (6.17m) shattered Gordon's previous-best by over a foot. Her previous-best long jump was 18-11.25 (5.77m).

Gordon's school record is the fifth one set this outdoor campaign. The Tigers also put up school marks in the men's 4x100-meter relay and the women's hammer, 3000-meter steeplechase and javelin in 2019.

The Tigers' Senior Day ceremonies are scheduled for Saturday at 12:20 p.m. (CT) on the infield of the Murphy Soccer/Track and Field Complex.

Tigers Tidbits
- The Tigers won four titles and had 11 top-three performances Friday.
- Senior Megan (Briley) Ryan improved her time in the women's 1500 meters for a second-straight meet. On Friday, she placed fourth in a time of 4:37.32, which was nearly six seconds better than last week's 4:43.22. In the last two meets, Ryan has shaved just over 10 seconds off her best time entering the 2019 campaign.
- Senior Julian Sanchez-Pinto improved his personal-best in the men's 1500 meters by eight seconds with a 3:52.55 run. His previous-best time was 4:00.69.
- In the men's long jump, senior Olushola Olojo improved his personal-best with a mark of 24-9.25 (7.55m), out-distancing his previous-best by nearly 1.5 feet (23-4.75; 7.13m).
- Freshman Christian Hill shattered her previous-best mark in the women's long jump by nearly 1.5 feet. Hill jumped 19-7.5 (5.98m), improving on previous effort of 18-1.75 (5.53m).
- Parker Evans improved his personal-best in the men's hammer with a 173-1 (52.75m) throw. His effort surpassed his previous-best by over five feet (167-8; 51.12m).
- Other personal-bests Friday were: Sandra Ekblom in the women's long jump; Erin Gilbert and Kristen Adams in the women's 1500 meters; Emmanuel Cullins and Brendan Hill in the men's 1500 meters; and Tanalya Gordon and Kacie Scott in the women's 200 meters.
- Senior Ashley Pryke won her 18th career javelin title Friday.
- The women's hammer group, which is ranked No. 2 nationally, swept the event's top-three positions Friday, with Mona Jaidi first, Amber Simpson second and Vigdis Jonsdottir third.
