Tigers Tidbits
- Fifteen Tigers track and field seniors will be honored near the start of the running events Saturday. After the 4x100-meter relays run at 12 p.m. (CT), the Senior Salute is scheduled to begin at 12:20 p.m. (CT) on the complex's infield.
- For the fifth year in a row, the Tigers close out their regular season with a home meet at the Billy J. Murphy Soccer/Track and Field Complex. Memphis, as a full squad, competed in its final meet of the outdoor season at home in 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 and this weekend. Memphis hosted the Memphis Invitational in 2014, but the meet was held in late March. This is the 10thtime in the last 11 outdoor seasons the Tigers are hosting an outdoor home meet. The only season in that stretch in which Memphis did not host a meet was 2013.
- With this weekend being their last regular-season meet, the Tigers are using the Memphis Invitational as a final tune-up before the American Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships in two weeks. The league championships meet is scheduled for Wichita, Kan., May 10-12.
- The women's throws group is second nationally in the hammer, according to the U.S. Track and Field/Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCA) website. As a group, its average is 198-8 (60.54m), which is second to North Dakota State. The Tigers improved their average by over three feet from the previous week. The Memphis women's hammer group, which competes Friday afternoon, includes Amber Simpson, Vigdis Jonsdottir, Mona Jaidi and DeeNia McMiller.
- The women's throws group also is ranked No. 16 nationally in the discus – headed up by Samantha Lenton. The group is second among the throws group in the South Region.
- On the men's side, the Tigers' sprints group is ranked No. 19 in the 100 meters and No. 20 in the 200 meters nationally, according to the USTFCCCA website. Davon DeMoss and Imri Persiado pace the group in both events.
