Senior Brad Bawden will lead Tigers into event at Innisbrook Resort
PALM HARBOR, Fla. – Led by the play of senior Bradley Bawden, the University of Memphis will enter the American Athletic Conference Men's Golf Championship with some momentum.
The Championship will be played April 21, 22 and 23 at the Copperhead Course at Innisbrook Resort. The winner earns an automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament.
Bawden, from Hockley, England, had a top 10 finish in the Mason Rudolph Championship two weeks ago in Franklin, Tenn., and followed with a top 20 finish at the Old Waverly Collegiate Championship at West Point, Miss.
Bawden has had six consecutive rounds – and eight of his last nine – under par. He opened the spring season by earning the individual title in the Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate at Hilton Head, S.C.
Joining Bawden at the Copperhead Course will be Chase Harris, Isaiah Jackson, Borja Martin, Guillaume Chevalier and Nick Giles.
The Tiger finished fourth at last year's AAC Championship behind champion USF, SMU and UCF. Played at the same Copperhead Course, the Tigers were led by Martin (3-over 216) and Bawden (5-over 218).
Memphis finished the 2018 Championship at 19-over 871. The Tigers' best result in an AAC Championship came in 2016 when they were runner-up – by 20 strokes – to USF. USF has won four straight titles, all by 13 or more strokes.
