Softball Falls in Series Finale to Wichita State

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis softball team fell in the series finale to Wichita State Sunday by a score of 15-3 in five innings. The Shockers ultimately swept the Tigers as Memphis falls to 21-23 on the year and 3-9 in American Athletic Conference play.
Offensively, the Tigers scored three runs, including two off the home run swing of Baylee Smith in the bottom of the third inning.
Pitching struggled early, leading to six runs scored in the top of the first inning by Wichita State.
Memphis answered with one in the bottom of the first off the bat of Ashley Threatt, who drove Delaney Smith home. Smith reached with a leadoff walk. The Shockers proceeded to capitalize on Memphis errors in the third inning, building their lead to 11-1.
Baylee Smith's home run knock cut into the Shockers lead, but proved to be the final score for the Tigers on Sunday. Wichita State added three more in the fourth and one in the fifth to build on its lead.

Memphis will take the midweek off before hosting Houston next weekend in a three-game series. - Baylee Smith hit her team-leading sixth home run of the season in the bottom of the third inning. It was her second home run of the series. She is now tied with three other hitters for team lead.
- Memphis has now hit 30 home runs this season for the fifth time in program history.
- Ashley Threatt and Gracie Morton also recorded hits for the Tigers.
