Jackson, Martin pace Tigers with 4-over 220s; Bawden finishes at 221
BLUFFTON, S.C. – On a day in which no University of Memphis golfer could break par, the Tigers shot 15-over 303 to finish sixth in the Colleton River Collegiate.
The Tigers, playing in their second spring event, entered Tuesday's final round in third place behind Michigan State and Iowa State. Michigan State won with a 12-under 852, including a 1-over 289 Tuesday. Iowa State finished second at 6-under 858.
Michigan State's Donnie Trosper was the medalist as he followed rounds of 69 and 67 with a 2-under 70 in Tuesday's final round for a total of 10-under 206. Iowa's Alex Schaake was second at 209 and Lachian Barker of Iowa State finished third at 210.
For the Tigers, Isaiah Jackson and Borja Martin shot 4-over 220, Jackson closing with a 3-over 75 and Martin with a 2-over 74. Bradley Bawden, who fired a 7-under 65 in the second round, struggled Tuesday with a 79 for 221. Chase Harris had a 75 for 226.
Nick Giles, competing as an individual, had the best overall finish. He shot 76 for 219 and tied for 20th.
Memphis returns to South Carolina next week to participate in the Palmetto Invitational March 11 and 12 at Palmetto Golf Club in Aiken.
