Pryke Garners Conference Weekly Honor

Tigers senior named the league's Female Field Athlete of the Week.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – University of Memphis senior Ashley Pryke has been named the American Athletic Conference Female Field Athlete of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.

It is the first conference weekly honor for Pryke this season and the fourth of her career. It is also the second-straight week a Tiger has earned a conference weekly honor. Freshman Adar Sheere was the league's Male Field Athlete of the Week for Mar. 19.

The Peterborough, Ontario, native reset her school record in the women's javelin at last weekend's Al Schmidt Bulldog Relays in Starkville, Miss. Pryke won the event with a school-record throw of 188-6 (57.47m), which was nearly two feet longer than her previous record of 186-9 (56.93m).

Pryke's 188-6 (57.47m) throw ranks first in the American Athletic Conference, first in the NCAA East Region and second in the nation. The javelin title at the Mississippi State meet was the 17thof her career. Pryke's previous school record was set at the 2017 NCAA Championships, where she won bronze (third place) in the event.

Pryke is a two-time All-American in the javelin, having earned first team honors at the 2017 and 2018 NCAA Championships.

The Tigers continue their outdoor season this weekend when they travel to Cape Girardeau, Mo., for Southeast Missouri's Joey Haines Invitational. The action starts Friday at 3:30 p.m. (CT), and at 11 a.m. (CT) on Saturday.
