Tigers win 11 titles in the two-day meet in Starkville.
STARKVILLE, Miss. – University of Memphis senior Ashley Pryke reset her school record in the women's javelin to pace the Tigers in Saturday action at Mississippi State's Al Schmidt Bulldog Relays.
Â
Pryke won the event with a school-record throw of 188-6 (57.47m). Her previous school record was 186-9 (56.93m), which she posted with her third-place (bronze) performance at the 2017 NCAA Outdoor Championships. Pryke's throw of 188-6 (57.47m) also shattered the Mississippi State track and field stadium record. The previous stadium record was 178-8 (54.45m), which she also set at last year's Al Schmidt Bulldog Relays.
Â
Saturday's javelin title was the 17th of Pryke's career. She also defended her Bulldog Relays championship from a year ago.
Â
Pryke's javelin record comes on the heels of freshman Amber Simpson resetting her school record in the women's hammer Friday. Simpson had a throw of 197-11 (60.33m) to surpass her previous record of 196-1 (59.76m) that she set in her collegiate debut at the Mar. 22 Rhodes Invitational.
Â
On the men's side, Davon DeMoss returned for his first outdoor meet of the season Saturday. He won the 200 meters and also ran a leg on the first-place 4x100 meter relay. DeMoss sat out the season opener at Rhodes College to rest. The senior had just completed his indoor season Mar. 8 at the 2019 NCAA Championships.
