Sheere Named AAC Male Field Athlete Of The Week

Tigers freshman won men's discus at outdoor season opener last weekend.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – University of Memphis freshman Adar Sheere has been named the American Athletic Conference Male Field Athlete of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.

It is the first conference weekly honor of Sheere's career, indoor or outdoor.

In his first collegiate outdoor meet last weekend, Sheere won the discus (185-0; 56.40m) and placed fourth in the hammer (181-6; 55.33m) at the 2019 Rhodes Invitational. His discus effort is ninth nationally and his hammer throw is 54thin the country. Sheere's marks lead The American in both events.

In the 2018-19 indoor season, Sheere won bronze in the weight throw at the league championships. The Givatayim Center, Israel, nativeposted nine top-three finishes in the shot put and weight throw combined during the indoor campaign.

The Tigers continue their outdoor season this weekend when they travel to Starkville, Miss., for Mississippi State's Al Schmidt Bulldog Relays. The action starts Friday at 10 a.m. (CT), and at 11 a.m. (CT) on Saturday.
