Women's Basketball Celebrates Black History Month In Game Against Houston

Tigers play in nationally televised game
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis women's basketball returns home one more time in February for a nationally-televised 1 p.m. game against Houston on Sunday. To celebrate Black History Month, the first 200 fans will receive a t-shirt, courtesy of the UofM Alumni Association Black Alumni Chapter.

Memphis hosts Houston after dropping a road game to UConn in Hartford. Three Tigers scored in double-digits, led by Jada Stinson and Jasmine James scoring 12 points each. Freshman Jamirah Shutes netted 11 points. Stinson tied a career-high by knocking down four three-pointers against the Huskies. Freshman Camille Buckhanon led the team with five rebounds, her first time leading the team on the glass this season.

Shutes ranks seventh in The American scoring leaderboard and is the highest-scoring freshman in the conference. Sophomore forward Alana Davis is second on the team in scoring, averaging 12.1 points per game. Two of the last three contests, Davis has poured in 20 or more points, with five total 20-plus point performances on the season. The forward scores with the third-highest field goal percent in the AAC, converting on 52.2 percent of her shots. Davis leads Memphis in rebounding, pulling down 8.1 boards per game, a mark that ranks fourth in the conference. Her work on the offensive glass is notable, as she ranks second in The American with 3.9 offensive rebounds per game.
