Tigers take on Stanford and Michigan Saturday
BATON ROUGE, La. – The University of Memphis softball team suffered a pair of setbacks Friday at the LSU Tournament hosted by No. 7 LSU. The Tigers first fell to California State University Northridge in the first game of the day by a score of 2-0 before falling to the host squad by a 4-0 margin.
Â
Memphis drops to 5-6 overall on the young season with two games remaining at the LSU Tournament.
Â
The Memphis pitching was a combined effort in game one against CSUN, as Karli Perque and Bayleigh Wisher evenly split innings. For the game, the Memphis pitching corps allowed just three hits and struck out seven.
Â
Offensively, however, the Tigers were held hitless and were unable to advance the two runners who reached by virtue of a walk.
Â
In the battle of the Tigers, LSU built up it's lead over Memphis throughout the entirety of the contest. LSU scored runs in the first, second, fourth, and fifth inning.
Â
Regan Hadley registered the first Memphis hit of the game, a single through the left side, in the top of the fourth inning. Gracie Morton joined in on the action in the top of the sixth inning with her fourth double of the season. Morton had reached base earlier in the contest on an LSU miscue.
Â
Defensively, LSU made several diving catches to keep Memphis from reaching base.
Â
Mariah Nichols pitched a complete game against the seventh-ranked Tigers allowing eight hits and striking out four in the setback.
Â
Memphis is back in action tomorrow with two games scheduled against Stanford and Michigan. First pitch against Stanford is currently slated for 9:30 a.m. With potential weather in the Baton Rouge area, all updates can be found on social media at @MemphisSoftball.
