Tigers set for three-game series with Southern Illinois

Saturday first pitch slated for 7 p.m.
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – After a shifted weekend series schedule, Memphis baseball returns to the diamond to face Southern Illinois on Saturday with a 7 p.m. first pitch. The Tigers and Salukis will play a double header on Sunday, with Game 1 set for 1 p.m. and Game 2 to follow approximately 45 minutes after the conclusion of Game 1.

The Tigers (1-3) seek to rebound after a 10-6 setback to Murray State on Wednesday night. Cale Hennemann enjoyed a 2-for-4 day at the plate with an RBI against the Racers, while Ben Brooks also posted a multi-hit game. Offensively, Memphis has posted 11 doubles this season, which ranks 16th nationally and tops the conference.
This weekend, Memphis will repeat its Week 1 rotation with Hunter Smith, Alex Hicks and Chris Durham. The Tiger pitching staff has struck out 50 batters through four games, which is tied for 13th nationally. Their 12.5 strikeouts per nine innings rank No. 12.
Southern Illinois (0-3) visits Memphis after dropping two of three at Nicholls last weekend. At the plate, Addison Fugitt went 3-for-9 with a double. Alex Lyon and Ian Walters each tallied three RBI. On the mound, Brad Harrison, Dylan Givens and Blake Begner highlight the SIU rotation. The Salukis hold a 3.60 staff ERA and a combined 27 strikeouts.
In the squads' most recent matchup, the Tigers took two of three against the Salukis in 2017 at FedExPark.
