Freshman Samantha Ibison led all hitters with four hits and three runs scored

MIAMI, Fla. – After a slow start to the weekend, the University of Memphis softball team ended on a high-note with an 11-9 victory over Michigan State Sunday afternoon. The Tigers improve to 2-3 on the year and earned their first-ever win over Big Ten foe Michigan State.

Seven players registered a hit on the afternoon including five players with at least two hits. Freshman Samantha Ibison led the Tigers with four hits and three runs. Junior Regan Hadley added two more RBIs to her total to help lead the Tigers. She finished with 10 this weekend.

Similar to yesterday, Michigan State took an early lead over the Tigers. Again, much like game one against the Spartans, Memphis had a response.

In the bottom of the second inning, trailing 3-1 to the Spartans, Memphis strung together four hits to score three runs to take a 4-3 lead.

Throughout the afternoon, there proved to be four lead changes as Michigan State answered in the top of the third inning. Trailing 7-6 after a scoreless fourth, Memphis went into the bottom of the fifth inning in need of run production. The Tigers rallied together five runs on five hits, including back-to-back doubles by Alyssa Dean and Baylee Smith, to take an 11-7 lead.

Michigan State added two more runs in the top of the sixth, but Memphis held on for its first win all-time against the Big Ten foe.

Bayleigh Wisher earned the victory against Michigan State. She improves to 1-0 on the year.

Notables

Delaney Smith extended her hitting streak to a team-leading seven games. Ashley Threatt's streak extended to six games.
Freshman Samantha Ibison led Memphis with four hits and three runs.
Regan Hadley drove in two runs and finished the weekend with 10 RBIs. Three players in total finished with two RBIs.
Baylee Smith and Alyssa Dean each recorded a double.
The Tigers finished with 16 hits and allowed just nine hits by Michigan State
No Memphis player struck out and the Tigers drew two walks.
