MEMPHIS, Tenn. – After one of the best seasons in program history, a pair of Memphis women's soccer student-athletes were voted to the United Soccer Coaches All-America Team, the organization announced Thursday night.
Senior Stasia Mallin was named First Team All-America and junior Clarissa Larisey earned Second Team All-America honors.
Thursday's announcement marks the second time in program history Memphis has had at least two student-athletes garner All-America accolades in the same season. The Tigers had three listed on All-America teams in 2011 (Lizzy Simonin, first team; Elise Kuhar-Pitters, second team; Christabel Oduro, third team).
"I can't be prouder of these two. Obviously, it's well deserved," head coach Brooks Monaghan said. "They had fantastic seasons. It's great to celebrate Stasia with the career she had and excited for Clarissa to add this to her successful collegiate career. It's the second time in program history we've had multiple in one year. That speaks so much to not only these kids but also to where our program is to have two players earn All-America honors."
Mallin, who was named First Team Academic All-American Thursday morning, became the Tigers' first All-American voted to the first-team list since Simonin in 2011. The MAC Hermann Trophy semifinalist capped her senior year with career highs in goals (3) and assists (14), while her 14 assists rank fourth nationally.
In her senior year, the Carmel, Ind., native captured the American Athletic Conference's career assists record with 29, which also rank third in program history. The First Team All-Conference honoree also helped Memphis to 12 shutouts throughout 2019. Mallin is one of six student-athletes nationally to garner All-America status both athletically and academically this year, and is the lone First Team recipient on both lists.
Larisey, who was named First Team All-Region in 2018 and 2019, became the third non-senior to earn United Soccer Coaches All-America distinction in program history and first since Oduro in 2011. The junior capped 2019 as the American Athletic Conference's co-Offensive Player of the Year.
Larisey led the Tiger offense with 16 goals, which ranks tied for the most in a Memphis single season since 2013. The Ottawa, Ontario native posted two hat tricks throughout her junior campaign and climbed to sixth in the program record book with 31 career goals.
Mallin and Larisey helped Memphis to a 17-3-1 record in 2019, while the Tigers captured its first AAC regular-season title and made their third NCAA Tournament appearance in four years.
