Jamirah Shutes named to Junkanoo Jam All-Star Team
BIMINI, Bahamas – The University of Memphis women's basketball team fell in the Bimini Division's Championship Game at the Junkanoo Jam Saturday evening to LSU by a score of 89-58. The Tigers return to Memphis with a 4-4 overall record.

Sophomore guard Jamirah Shutes was named to the Junkanoo Jam All-Star Team after averaging 20.5 points per game in the tournament. Shutes scored a career-high 27 in the win against Kansas State.

The contest started in a back-and-forth fashion as Memphis took an early 4-2 lead. LSU found momentum quickly, however, and rattled off an 18-5 run to take a 15-point lead over the Tigers with 2:09 remaining in the first quarter.

LSU continued to gain steam against Memphis through the second quarter, building a 50-26 halftime lead. LSU, the designated home team in the game, finished the first half shooting 63.6 percent from the floor while holding Memphis to 34.5 percent.

Memphis continued to battle in the second half, holding LSU to just 16 third quarter points while producing 15 of its own. Gazmyne Herndon paced the Tigers in the third quarter with a team-leading seven points. She finished with 11 points in the contest.

LSU kept the Tigers at bay for the remainder of the contest. The Tigers ultimately forced 15 LSU turnovers, while committing 16 themselves. Four players finished with four rebounds for Memphis.
