Women's hoops set to compete at the Junkanoo Jam

Tigers take on Kansas State Friday in Bimini, Bahamas
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Riding on a two-game winning streak, the Memphis women's basketball team takes its momentum to the Caribbean, participating in the Junkanoo Jam for its next two games. Game one will take place against Kansas State on the island of Bimini, Bahamas. Tipoff against the Wildcats is slated for 2 p.m. CT on Friday.

The second game of the trip will either be against LSU or No. 15/16 Michigan State, depending upon the results from game one. Game two takes place on Saturday at either 3:30 p.m. or 5:45 p.m. CT.

Last time the Tigers hit the court, the team turned in its most efficient shooting performance en route to an 83-76 win over Toledo on Nov. 24. Memphis finished the game shooting 52 percent from the field, 62 percent from beyond the arc and 79 percent from the free throw line, all of which were season-highs. Madison Griggs led the team with 24 points, hitting a school-record eight three-pointers on 10 attempts.

Overall, five Tigers scored in double-figures against the Rockets and Memphis knocked down 23 free throws to secure the win. Sixteen of the freebies came in the fourth quarter, including the last 12 points of the game for the Tigers.

Scouting the Kansas State Wildcats
Kansas State heads to the Bahamas with a 3-1 record, most recently dropping its first contest of the year to UT Arlington. Despite a strong second half and 24 offensive rebounds, the Wildcats couldn't overcome a sluggish first half, falling 57-53.

Peyton Williams, for her part, had a solid 16 points and 18 rebounds, nine of which were offensive. Williams is one of four Kansas State players averaging more than 10 points per game. Checking in at second on the team with 13.7 points per game, Williams leads the team with 16.7 rebounds per contest, an average that is also first in the NCAA.
The Wildcats have won three of their four games this season, taking victories by an average of 36 points. As a team, Kansas State outshoots opponents by eight percent from the floor, outrebounds opponents by 16.5 boards and has attempted 43 more free throws.
