MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis baseball announced its second addition of this year's class, as in-state standout Jackson Cothren signed his letter of intent this week to play for the Tigers.
Cothren inked his NLI to join Memphis after a successful prep career on the mound at Lincoln County High School.
"Jackson projects to be a front line power RHP that should enjoy a wonderful career at Memphis," head coach Daron Schoenrock said. "He competes at an elite level and possess the work ethic that fits our program tremendously. We are thrilled with his ability to become a high strikeout guy with the swing-and-miss slider he has. He is primed to impact our 2021 pitching staff in a big way."
A preseason Perfect Game All-American, the Fayetteville, Tenn., product helped lead Lincoln County to a district championship and a regional runner-up finish in 2019. By the season's end, Cothren earned All-District and All-Region honors.
Under the guidance of coach Travis Tate, Cothren posted a 7-1 record with 53.2 innings pitched this spring. He recorded a 1.10 ERA and totaled 70 strikeouts, while his 2019 highlights include tossing a one-hit complete game with 12 strikeouts.
A two-sport standout, Cothren also lettered two years in football at quarterback along with lettering four years in baseball.
In the classroom, Cothren was selected to the High-Honor Roll each semester, and was a member of Beta Club and First National Bank Student Advisory Board.
