MEMPHIS, Tenn. – In the first day of the 2019 fall signing period, Memphis baseball announced the addition of local standout BJ Banyon.
Banyon, a native of Bartlett, anchored the outfield for the Panthers, lettering four years and helping the squad to a 33-14 record in his senior season.
In 2019, Banyon guided Bartlett High School to a district and regional title, while the Panthers finished as a state semifinalist. He also helped lead Bartlett to a district championship in 2018.
"BJ brings athleticism, speed and high baseball IQ into the program, and we are thrilled with his decision to become a Tiger," head coach Daron Schoenrock said. "We have thoroughly enjoyed watching BJ's development into the player he is today and look forward to seeing his career unfold at Memphis."
Individually, the Bartlett product claimed All-District honors in 2017 and 2018. As a senior, he hit .305 with 43 hits, 49 runs, 23 RBI and stole 27 bases. Under the direction of head coach Josh Stewart, Banyon enjoyed a strong junior campaign in 2018, hitting a career-best .324 with 17 RBI and plating 41 runs.
In the classroom, Banyon was named to the academic honor roll all four years of high school.
