Anchoring the team for 2019-20 are five returners from last year's squad, a group that combined for 58 percent of the scoring from the 2018-19 schedule. Leading the way for the returners is Jamirah Shutes, who topped the roster with 13.9 points per game and earned a spot on the American Athletic Conference's All-Rookie team.
Alana Davis, who will also assume a leadership role this season, enters the season as the team's leading rebounder from a year ago. Davis, who led the team with 7.7 rebounds per game, ranked fourth in the conference in rebounding. The Augusta, Ga., native was also one of five players in The American to shoot over 50 percent from the floor.
The other returners for Memphis, Gazmyne Herndon, Malainna 'Rudy' White and Camille Buckhanon, provide quality options for what could be a team that has depth at all positions.
Head coach Melissa McFerrin enters her 12th season at the helm of the program as the third-winningest head coach in school history with 175 victories for the Blue and Gray.
Memphis heads into 2019-20 having made its deepest run into the AAC Championship since 2015. The Tigers kick off the regular season with a 5 p.m. tip on Nov. 5 against Alcorn State.
Scouting the Lady Bucs
Christian Brothers enters the 2019-20 season with two of its top four scorers returning to the program. The Lady Bucs bring back Brynne Lytle, who led the team with 16.4 points per game last year, along with Kelsey Adkins and her 10.6 points per game.
Three-pointers were a well-used weapon for CBU last season, with the team splashing home 219 triples, compared to allowing opponents to hit 158 shots from long-range.
CBU is under the direction of first-year head coach Jessie Carmack, who joins the program after seven seasons at Ohio Dominican University.
