Tigers defeat Christian Brothers in lone exhibition game

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Junior college transfer Dulcy Fankam Mendjiadeu posted a nine-point, 13-rebound stat line, while Memphis native Lanetta Williams added 10 points as the Tigers defeated Christian Brothers by a score of 71-61 Wednesday evening.

All 11 players that checked in scored for the Tigers, with five players scoring at least seven points. Senior guard Gazmyne Herndon turned in a complete performance, scoring a team-high 11 points, pulling down 5 rebounds and leading the team with 5 assists.

Memphis came out aggressive and determined against the Lady Bucs, forcing eight first quarter turnovers while scoring 20 points. That defensive intensity continued, forcing a total of 17 Christian Brothers turnovers in the first 20 minutes.

The Tigers, however, committed seven turnovers of their own in the first quarter, but tightened up the offense with only two in the next 10 minutes of action.

Fankam Mendjiadeu opened the first half with eight points and seven rebounds to lead Memphis. Williams started the contest 3-for-3 from the floor for six points, hitting shots with a plethora of post spins and fakes.

Memphis strung together a 7-0 run through the heart of the third quarter, lifting the Tigers to a 15-point advantage. Malainna "Rudy" White finished a fastbreak layup under the basket to cap the Tigers run for her first points of the contest.

Christian Brothers continued to battle in the contest, but baskets at crucial times by the Tigers kept the Lady Bucs at arm's reach.

The Tigers would finish the contest having forced 24 turnovers from the Lady Bucs, turning 16 into steals and scoring 23 points off of those turnovers. Newcomers Keke Hunter and Madison Griggs added seven points each while junior forward Alana Davis added nine points on 4-for-4 shooting from the floor.
