Women's Basketball remains on road against Wichita State

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Memphis women's basketball team plays the second of back-to-back road games Saturday as the Tigers head to Wichita State for a matchup with the Shockers. Game time at the Charles Koch Arena is 2 p.m.

Memphis stays on the road following a 46-39 setback to Tulsa on Wednesday. Despite holding the Golden Hurricane to just 12 points in the first half, a second half surge from Tulsa proved to be the difference. Freshman Jamirah Shutes led the Tigers with 13 points.
Shutes continues to lead Memphis in scoring, netting 13.8 points per contest. Her average ranks eighth in The American, and first among freshmen. Shutes has scored in double-digits in all but three games this season. Alana Davis is second on the team in scoring, and is the other Tiger who averages double-figure scoring with 11.7 points per game.
Davis leads the Tigers in rebounding, averaging 8.8 rebounds per contest. She has grabbed 10 or more boards eight times this season, which has parleyed into six double-doubles. On the offensive glass, Davis ranks in the top-10 in the country, grabbing 4.2 offensive rebounds per game.
Scouting the Shockers
Wichita State welcomes Memphis for its first conference home game. The Shockers dropped their previous outing, falling 78-56 in a road game to ECU on Wednesday. Carla Bremaud led the way with 18 points, including four, three-pointers, but the Shockers struggled to find a secondary scorer.
The Shockers' scoring runs deep, with seven players averaging more than five points per contest, led by Bremaud's 9.2 points per game.
Wichita State's defense holds opponents to just 29 percent shooting from beyond the arc, the fourth-best mark in the AAC.
The Tigers and the Shockers are relatively new opponents, having played just four times in the past. After claiming victory in the first two match-ups, Memphis lost both games in the 2017-18 season as conference opponents.
