Five Things to Know About Memphis
- The Tigers enter the middle portion of six-consecutive matches away from home, facing Rice and Louisiana at the Rice Tournament.
- Memphis blanked UAB and Samford last weekend in Birmingham by finals of 1-0 and 3-0, respectively.
- Junior Jessica Lisi was named the American Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week on Monday following her Golden Goal in overtime against UAB. The score was Lisi's third of the young season.
- Sophomore Clarissa Larisey netted a pair of goals against Samford on Monday. Her five goals and 10 points this season lead the American Athletic Conference.
- The Tigers hold a 6-2-1 series advantage against Rice. Sunday's match against Louisiana marks the first time the Tigers will meet the Ragin' Cajuns on the pitch.
A Look at Rice
In its last outing, Rice dropped a 5-1 decision against Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Ala., on Sunday. Four second-half goals led the Tide to victory against the visiting Owls.
After winning the 2017 Conference USA regular-season championship, Rice was picked to repeat as league champions in the 2018 head coaches' poll. Junior Maya Hoyer and senior Annie Walker were also named to the C-USA Preseason Team.
Rice returns eight of its 11 starters from last year's squad that went 12-4-2. Four Owls have scored a goal this season to lead the offense. Between the posts, Hoyer and freshman Bella Killgore have split time early in the season. Hoyer, who was named C-USA Goalkeeper of the Year last season, has logged seven saves in two games played. Killgore has seen action in three games and has registered 11 saves.
A Look at Louisiana
The Ragin' Cajuns enter the weekend having lost two of their last three matches and are in search of their first win since an Aug. 24 victory against Northwestern State. Louisiana will begin the tournament with a Friday matchup against Tulsa before facing the Tigers on Sunday.
Seniors Lexi Turner and Sarah Kozlowski and sophomore Una Einarsdotir each have a goal for Louisiana this season. Junior Mackenzie Lee and sophomore Victoria Ryan have each seen action in goal. Lee has collected 13 saves in 290 minutes, while Ryan has 10 saves in 200 minutes played.
