MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Former Memphis pitcher Jordan Richwood has joined the Tiger softball staff as a volunteer assistant coach, head coach Natalie Poole announced Thursday.
A 2015 Memphis graduate with a degree in exercise science, Richwood spent the last three seasons on staff at Christian Brothers as a graduate assistant coach while working on her master's degree in Elementary Education and Teaching.
"We are proud to announce the addition of Jordan to our coaching staff," Poole said. "After competing for us, she began coaching immediately and gained the experience needed to make an impact on our staff right away. I look forward to working with her, having her share her own playing and coaching experiences, and being able to further develop her at this level as a coach."
Richwood came to Memphis from Hillsdale High School in San Mateo, California. A three-year Peninsula Athletic League Bay Pitcher of the Year, Richwood was a four-year letterwinner at Memphis, appearing in 117 games with 67 starts, 32 complete games and four saves.
She was named to the Conference USA All-Freshman Team in 2012 after throwing nine complete games in 15 starts. As a freshman, she ranked third in the league with just 91 hits allowed and fifth with an opponents' batting average of .225. She finished the year with a 6-11 record and a 3.17 ERA, recording 10-plus strikeouts in three games.
As a sophomore, Richwood appeared in 34 games with 21 starts in the circle. She posted 159 strikeouts in 136 innings and pitched her 10thcomplete game while striking out a career-high 16 against Southeast Missouri.
At Memphis, Richwood will assist the Tiger coaching staff in various areas.
"I look forward to working with Jordan," Poole said. "She will be able to help us in planning and executing practices and game preparation, be able to throw to hitters, as well as work with any other area of skill development on the field. We can't wait to get started."
