Women's soccer opens 2018 season with Omaha

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis women's soccer officially kicks off its 24th season as the Tigers welcome the Omaha Mavericks on Thursday evening at Mike Rose Soccer Complex. Match time is slated for 7 p.m. and admission is free.

Five Things To Know About Memphis
- The Tigers return 15 student-athletes from their 2017 roster, including five seniors and five juniors.
- Seniors Olivia Gauthier, Marie Levasseur and Elizabeth Woerner were named to the American Athletic Conference Preseason All-Conference Team. Gauthier was also selected as the league's Preseason Defensive Player of the Year.
- Memphis was picked third in the American Athletic Conference preseason poll.

A Look at Omaha
The Mavericks posted a 6-10-1 overall mark in 2017 and went 3-4-0 in Summit League play. Omaha returns 14 letterwinners to its 2018 team, including eight starters from last season. Led by second-year Head Coach Tim Walters, Omaha was selected seventh in the Summit League Preseason Coaches' Poll, while senior midfielder/forward Emily Romero was named to the Summit League Players to Watch list.
Senior forward Abby Meader returns as the Mavericks' leading point scorer, tallying three goals and three assists throughout the 2017 campaign. In conference games, Romero led the way with three goals for six points.
Between the posts, junior Erin Bunker is the lone returner for the Mavericks. Bunker started eight games and collected a 3-5 record. Omaha also welcomes freshmen Ina Gudjonsdottir and Kelly Lemke at the goalkeeper position.
