Women’s Golf Announces Fall Schedule
Aug 15, 2018 | Women's Golf
MEMPHIS, Tenn. –The University of Memphis women's golf program announced its 2018 fall schedule Wednesday with all five fall tournaments outside of the Bluff City, moving the Memphis Intercollegiate to an April event.
For the second straight season, Memphis opens at the Payne Stewart Memorial hosted by Missouri State on Sept. 10-11 in Springfield, Missouri at the Twin Oaks Country Club. Memphis and senior Michaela Fletcher are each defending champs of the event. The Lady Tigers won the team title by 14 strokes, while Fletcher was one of three Memphis golfers in the top five, posting the lone score under par (212).
Memphis also returns to the Lady Paladin Invitational, hosted by Furman, Sept. 21-23 in Greenville, South Carolina. Memphis finished fifth at last year's event, with three players in the top 20, led by Fletcher's eighth-place finish.
A new fall event on this year's calendar will be the Bettie Lou Evans Invitational at the University of Kentucky, Oct. 5-7. This marks just the second time since 2011 that Kentucky has hosted the event, which will be played at the U-Club's Big Blue Course. The event is named after the longtime UK head coach and current director of golf operations.
Abby Herrmann tied for first at last year's Magnolia Invitational and she and her teammates will return to the event in West Point, Mississippi, Oct. 14-16 to try to repeat on last fall's success. Memphis finished as runners-up at that event, finishing seven strokes behind host Ole Miss and 11 strokes ahead of Tennessee. Sydney Colwill and Madison Thomas, both rising seniors in 2018, posted top five finishes at the event last year with Herrmann.
The Lady Tigers will travel to San Marcos, Texas to make their first appearance in the Jim West Challenge, Oct. 28-29.
Memphis returns three seniors for 2018-19: Colwill, Fletcher and Thomas. Juniors Herrmann and Ellie Youree and sophomore Julia Matzat also return for a roster that finished fourth at the 2018 American Athletic Conference championships. The Lady Tigers will be joined by freshmen Ana Dawson and Victoria Gallegos.
