Tigers Fall In Series Opener To Houston

Kyler Trosclair Klatt, Delaney Smith led the Tigers with two hits each
HOUSTON, Texas. – The University of Memphis softball team fell in game one of the three game series at Houston Friday evening by a score of 4-1. Memphis drops to 36-18 on the year and 10-9 in American Athletic Conference play.

Houston scored one run in the third, fourth, fifth, and sixth innings to gradually build its lead over the Tigers. Memphis recorded the first two hits of the ball game before the Cougars put a run on the board.

In the top of the sixth inning, the Memphis 1-2-3 hitters put up three-straight hits with one out to load the bases. Back-to-back outs recorded by Houston, however, halted the Tigers chances of putting a run on the board.

Brooke Lee put Memphis on the board in the top of the seventh with a solo home run to center field, but it proved to be the only run of the ball game for Memphis.

Molly Smith was handed the loss against the Cougars and she falls to 24-8 on the year. Kyler Trosclair Klatt and Delaney Smith led Memphis with two hits each. The Tigers ultimately outhit Houston, 7-6.
