Carner helped Spain Park High to 2016 state championship
MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- The University of Memphis men's golf program announced Wednesday that Landon Carner, an all-state golfer from Birmingham, Ala., has signed a National Letter of Intent to continue his career with the Tigers.
Carner, who was born in Tuscaloosa, helped lead Spain Park High in Hoover, Ala., to the 2016 Class 7A Alabama High School Athletic Association state championship. Carner shot 72-69 in the state championship and finished one stroke behind the medalist. For his efforts, Carner earned spots on the 2016 all-region and all-state teams.
"Landon is an excellent addition to our already strong 2018 class," said Memphis coach Blake Smart. "He will bring a competitive attitude coming from a strong high school program and I believe he will have a chance to contribute as a freshman."
Carner also has enjoyed success on the junior golf circuit. He was co-medalist last month at the David Miller Memorial, where he shot 70-69 to finish at 4-under par. He finished seventh at the 2017 Tom Bell Memorial. In the 72nd Alabama State Boys Junior Championship at Scottsboro, Alabama's Goose Pond Colony Resort, he shot 76-70-72 for a total of 2-over 218 and placed 47th.
Carner joins fall signees Gregory Odom Jr. (Middle College High), Joseph `Isaiah' Jackson (Meridian Community College) and Guillaume Chevalier (France) in the 2017-18 recruiting class.
