Softball Shuts Out Central Arkansas In Midweek Contest

Delaney Smith drives in career-high four RBIs, finishes with team-high three hits

CONWAY, Ark. – A strong showing at the plate combined with a shutout performance in the circle led the University of Memphis softball team to a 6-0 victory over Central Arkansas Tuesday evening. The Tigers rattled off 13 hits in the contest en route to their 34^th win of the season. Memphis is now 34-16 heading into the final home conference series this weekend.

The Tigers jumped out early against the Bears with three hits and a run scored in the top of the first inning. Memphis then matched that effort with another run in the second and one in the fourth.

In the top of the sixth with two outs, Memphis loaded the bases for freshman Delaney Smith. Smith delivered with her third triple of the season to score three and put the Tigers up 6-0 over the Bears.

Central Arkansas threatened in the sixth with a pair of two out singles and a walk, but a strikeout swinging to end the inning by Molly Smith got Memphis out of a jam.

As the Memphis offense produced runs, Smith dominated in the circle to keep UCA off the board. En route to her 22^nd victory of the season, Smith allowed just five hits and one walk while striking out nine.

Tiger Tidbits

This was the 16^th game this season Memphis recorded at least 10 hits. The last time was 11 hits on the road at UCF on April 13.
This was Molly Smith's ninth complete game shutout of the season. She has also been a part of two additional shutouts.
Delaney Smith led Memphis offensively with a 3-for-4 showing at the plate and a career-high four RBIs.
In addition to Smith, Baylee Smith, Brooke Lee, and Regan Hadley all had multi-hit games for the Tigers. Baylee Smith recorded the other extra base hit for Memphis, a double to right center.
Hadley led Memphis with two runs scored. She also recorded one of the two stolen bases on the night for Memphis (Kyler Trosclair Klatt with the other).
Molly Smith's 22^nd victory of the year was highlighted with nine strikeouts, putting her 12 shy of matching the all-time strikeout record of 488 K's set by Ellen Roberts.

Top 2 – Regan Hadley led the inning off with a single up the middle and stole second to put herself in scoring position. A ground out by Erin Parker combined with a single to right field by Kyler Trosclair Klatt drove in Hadley. (1 run, 2 hits, 0 errors, 0 left on base)
Top 4 – Hadley registered her second hit of the game with a leadoff single down the right field line. A walk to Rebeca Melton put runners on first and second for Delaney Smith who singled to centerfield to drive in Hadley. (1 run, 2 hits, 0 errors, 1 left on base)
Top 6 – With two outs, Rebeca Melton singled through the left side to ignite the Memphis offense. Erin Parker proceeded to lay down a bunt single and Trosclair Klatt reached on a fielding error to load the bases. Delaney Smith delivered with a triple to right center to put Memphis up 6-0. (3 runs, 3 hits, 1 error, 1 left on base)

Next Up For The Tigers
Memphis will take on Tulsa this weekend in the final home series of the 2018 season. The Tigers and Golden Hurricane will play a three-game series beginning Friday evening at 5 p.m. Before Sunday's first pitch at 12 p.m., the Tigers will recognize their seniors.
