Tigers Sweep Blues City Classic With Run-Rule Victory Sunday

Memphis improves to 11-5 with the win over UMKC
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis softball team finished the weekend off strong with an 8-0 victory over UMKC Sunday afternoon. The Tigers went a perfect 4-0 at the Blues City Classic and improve their record to 11-5 overall.

Scoreless through two innings, the Tigers put up one in the third and three in the fourth to jump out to a 4-0 lead over the visiting Kangaroos.

The hits continued to come off the bats for the Tigers as Memphis strung together four hits in the fifth to go up 7-0. Kyler Trosclair Klatt drove in two of the runs in the inning with her team-leading third hit of the contest.

UMKC threatened in the sixth with a pair of hits, including a double off the wall, but Molly Smith forced a pop out to first base to end the inning. Ashley Threatt then finished the run-ruled contest off with her second home run of the season in the bottom of the sixth.

Who Stood Out
Kyler Trosclair Klatt / SS / Senior / Houma, La.
Trosclair Klatt finished the day going 3-for-4 with a team-high four RBIs. The four RBIs matched her career-high, a total that she set in the win over Bradley Saturday afternoon. One of Trosclair Klatt's hits Sunday was a triple, her third of the weekend and seventh of the season.

Molly Smith / P / Senior / Yamhill, Ore.
Smith finished the weekend with a perfect 2-0 record after putting in a complete game against UMKC. Smith also registered the first Memphis save of the season earlier in the weekend. She finished with seven strikeouts and just one walk allowed.

Ashley Threatt / 1B / Junior / Big Rock, Tenn.
Threatt went 3-for-4 including her second home run of the season, an opposite field line drive home run, that won Memphis the game in the sixth. It was the second multi-hit game of the weekend for her and the three hits were a career-high.

Delaney Smith / OF / Freshman / Dayton, Tenn.
Smith went 2-for-2 with a team-high two runs scored and a walk for the Tigers. With hits on Sunday, Smith has extended her hitting streak to five games and she finished the weekend with nine hits.

Next Up For The Tigers
The Tigers will take on Tennessee State on the road before hosting the UofM Softball Tournament next weekend. Memphis has four games slated at the Tiger Softball Complex with Mississippi Valley State on tap first on Friday, March 9. First pitch against the Delta Devils is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.

- Bottom 4 – With one out, six consecutive batters reached base and scored three runs for the Tigers. Ashley Threatt, Kendall Lee, Trosclair Klatt, and Baylee Smith all recorded hits in the inning. (3 runs, 4 hits, 0 errors, 3 left on base)
- Bottom 5 – Three straight singles by Addison Maxwell, Threatt, and Delaney Smith loaded the bases for pinch hitter Riley Walker. Walker proceeded to get hit by a pitch, bringing in the first run of the inning. A single through the right side by Trosclair Klatt scored two more to put Memphis up 7-0. (3 runs, 4 hits, 0 errors, 2 left on base)
- Bottom 6 – Threatt hit an opposite field line drive home run to give Memphis the run-ruled victory. (1 run, 1 hit, 0 errors, 0 left on base)
