Three Track And Field Records Fall Friday

RALEIGH, N.C. – Well, she did it again.
She is University of Memphis graduate student Martina Rodriguez Sala, and for the second time this outdoor season, she set a school record. In Friday action at the Raleigh Relays, Rodriguez Sala broke her own school record in the women's 1500 meters.
The Olot, Spain, native placed sixth in the event in a school-record time of 4:17.99. She re-set her own school mark by nearly 2.5 seconds, as she first took the program's 1500-meters top spot with a time of 4:20.46 in 2016.
Rodriguez Sala's school record Friday also was her second of the season. In the 2018 season-opening meet at Rhodes College Mar. 17, she set the school record in the women's 5000 meters (16:34.51). Rodriguez Sala shaved 14 seconds off the previous school mark.
Later Friday night, senior Arnica Zitting put her name in the Memphis track and field record book with her performance in the women's 10,000 meters. Zitting finished 29th in a school-record time of 35:26.35. Her time broke the previous record – set by Chelsea Ladd in 2017 – by five seconds. Zitting's time Friday also was a personal-best by 10 seconds.

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – She did it again. But, she is a different Tigers standout.
For the second meet in a row, sophomore Mona Jaidi set a school record in the throws. However, in Friday action at Southeast Missouri's Joey Haines Invitational, Jaidi broke the program's 11-year-old record in the women's hammer.
Jaidi won the event with a school-record throw of 189-0 (57.60m). Her toss surpassed the previous mark of 185-7 (56.58m) by over three feet. Jaidi's throw improved her personal-best by nearly seven feet.
At last week's Bulldog Relays in Starkville, Miss., Jaidi broke the 10-year-old program record in the women's discus.
Kate Hise also had a personal-best in the women's hammer Friday with her 157-5 (47.98m) throw. Hise improved her personal-best by nearly 10 feet.

AUSTIN, Texas – Tigers All-Americans Michael Criticos, Ashley Pryke and Luke Vaughn competed at the prestigious Texas Relays Friday.
Pryke posted the top finish on the day, placing fifth in the women's javelin (165-3; 50.38m). Criticos threw in the men's javelin and placed eighth (221-8; 67.56m).
Vaughn was sixth in the men's discus with a 186-4 (56.79m) throw. Vaughn returns to action in the men's shot put Saturday.
