After a pit stop at home this past Saturday, the Tigers head back on the road to take on ECU. Wednesday's game will be the last road contest until the regular season finale with three home contests in between. Following a loss to SMU, Memphis will try to right the ship against a Pirates squad that has won three of their last four.
The Tigers continue to be led by their seniors, Brea Elmore and Cheyenne Creighton, with Elmore leading the team in points and Creighton leading in rebounds. This proved to be the case against SMU, as Elmore led the team with 11 points, and Creighton was tops in rebounds with nine. Entering the game against the Pirates, here are some tidbits about the Memphis women's basketball team:
A Look At ECU
ECU will host Memphis with a 13-11 overall record and 5-6 American Athletic Conference mark. The Pirates' last outing resulted in an 88-47 loss to American foe USF last Wednesday. ECU has, however, claimed a victory in three of their last four games, beating Cincinnati, Wichita State, and SMU.
ECU's top scorer is Ariyana Williams, who scores 9.6 points per game this season. Five other players score six or more points per game, resulting in an offense that is balanced across the board. Thais Oliveira leads the team in rebounds, having grabbed 134 boards on the year.
As a group, the Pirates are averaging almost 65 points per game while shooting 37.5 percent from the field. ECU also gets after ball handlers, averaging 11.1 steals per game, while forcing opponents into 22 turnovers per game.
Heather Macy is at the helm of the Pirates and is currently in her eighth season as head coach. As the ninth head coach in program history, Macy claimed the record for most wins in program history this season. Currently, ECU is sitting in sixth place in the American Athletic Conference standings.
