MEMPHIS, Tenn. – After finishing the 2018 spring season with its highest year-end team ranking since 2014, Memphis women's tennis seeks to capture that momentum in a competitive 2019 spring schedule.
The Tigers host eight home matches at the Racquet Club of Memphis and will face four teams who competed in last season's NCAA Tournament.
"This year's schedule is a challenging one. The girls will be challenged every weekend. This is what they signed up for when they became Memphis Tigers," head coach Hayden Perez said of the slate. "Entering the fall, 13 of our opponents were ranked inside the top 100 in the country. This will test us and give us the opportunity to grow each and every match. I am looking forward to this year's group taking on this schedule and I believe they will rise to the challenge."
Memphis, who finished the 2018 season ranked No. 71, will begin the season on Jan. 25 against last year's national runner-up Vanderbilt at the ITA Kick-Off Weekend, and will face Oklahoma or Winthrop to conclude the event. After a trip to Arizona to face Arizona and Arizona State to open the month of February, Memphis will play ECU and Tulane in a round-robin weekend in New Orleans on Feb. 9-10.
The Tigers welcome Missouri and Minnesota to Memphis on Feb. 15 and Feb. 17 for the home-opener. UConn and Lipscomb will also make trips to the Raquet Club of Memphis on Feb. 22 and Feb. 24.
Memphis will embark on its second six-match road swing of the season to begin the month of March. The squad will travel to Old Dominion and William & Mary on March 2-3, and follow with visits to UAB and Samford on Mar. 8-9. The Tigers will travel north once more to play Brown and Harvard of the Ivy League on Mar. 22 and Mar. 24.
Memphis will host Cincinnati, South Alabama and Marshall on Mar. 29-31 and welcomes North Texas to the Bluff City on Apr. 6 for Senior Day. The Tigers will conclude the regular season with a trip to Murfreesboro to take on in-state foe Middle Tennessee on Apr. 13.
The American Athletic Conference Championships begin Apr. 17, hosted by UCF at the USTA National Campus in Lake Nona, Fla.
