Duo named to all-district team for the first time in their careers
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – For the second consecutive year, the University of Memphis women's soccer program has players named to the Google Cloud Academic All-District Team. This season, senior Catherine Levasseur and junior Stasia Mallin were named to the first team Thursday afternoon.
Â
Last year, defender Sydney Kingston was the first women's soccer player to be named to an all-district team since 2015. Kingston went on to be a Second-Team Academic All-America honoree.
Â
Levasseur, a senior from Stoneham, Quebec City, Canada, has a 4.0 grade-point average as a double major in journalism and communications at the UofM. She is a six-time Tiger 3.0 Club, Dean's List, and Tiger Academic 30 honoree. She has also been recognized by the American Athletic Conference as an All-Academic Team member in each of her academic years.
Â
On the field, Levasseur has started in 78-consecutive matches and is the owner of four goals and six assists in her career.
Mallin, a native of Carmel, Ind., also has a perfect 4.0 GPA as a biomedical engineering major. She has been named to the Tiger 3.0 Club, Dean's List, and Tiger Academic 30 every semester enrolled at Memphis and like Levasseur, has been recognized by the AAC as an All-Academic Team member each season of her career.
Â
This season, Mallin scored her first collegiate goal against Mississippi State and now has a career-high eight assists after assisting in the 1-0 semifinal victory against UCF in the AAC Championship.
Â
Levasseur and Mallin have helped anchor a Memphis defense that has allowed just 13 goals all season and 13 posted shutouts including back-to-back shutouts that led to Memphis' first-ever AAC Tournament Championship.
In addition to their personal accolades, Levasseur and Mallin have played a crucial part of earning the women's soccer team the United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award and the AAC Academic Excellence Awards for five straight years.
Â
In order to be nominated for the Academic All-America award, student-athletes must carry a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or better in both undergrad and grad schools. The student-athlete must also participate in at least 50 percent of the team's matches.
Â
In program history, Levasseur and Mallin become the 14th and 15th women's soccer players to be recognized on a CoSIDA Academic All-District team. First-team Academic All-District honorees advance to the Google Cloud Academic All-America ballot. First-, second- and third-team (if necessary) Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in early December.
