Tigers host Division II Magicians in the only exhibition game of the season
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis women's basketball team takes to the hardwood at the Elma Roane Fieldhouse Saturday afternoon in an exhibition against LeMoyne-Owen. Tip against the Magicians is slated for 2 p.m.

The 2018-19 Tigers boast a youthful roster, with just five players donning the Blue and Gray prior to this season. Of the newcomers, three of them are true freshmen in Camille Buckhanon, Jamirah Shutes, and Malainna 'Rudy' White. As seniors last year, this trio averaged 28, 33, and 22 points per game, respectively.

Earlier this spring, Shutes broke the Tennessee state tournament scoring record with 46 points and finished her Haywood High School career with over 3,000 points. Buckhanon is the all-time rebound and block leader at Talladega High School while White was named the Player of the Year and Girls Athlete of the Year at Pensacola High School.

Junior guard Taylor Barnes is the top returning scorer from the 2017-18 season at 8.8 points per contest. She also recorded a career-high 97 assists and was third on the team with 41 steals.

Head coach Melissa McFerrin enters her 11th season at the helm of the University of Memphis program.

A Look At LeMoyne-Owen
The Magicians finished the 2017-18 season with a 16-11 overall record including a 11-7 mark in conference play. As a member of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, LeMoyne-Owen won six out of the final eight conference match-ups before falling in the first round of the SIAC Tournament.

Dana Bettis, the team's leading scorer, returns for her senior season in 2018-19. She finished last year averaging a team-high 18.3 points per game and was second on the squad with 55 assists.

The Magicians are under the direction of Antony Partee, who is in his sixth season at the helm of the LeMoyne-Owen program.
