Boychuk, Gauthier, Larisey, Moberg tabbed The American's Players of the Week
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Following two more league victories, No. 18/24 Memphis swept The American's Player of the Week awards as four Tiger student-athletes garnered weekly accolades.
Sophomore Clarissa Larisey was named the Offensive Player of the Week, senior Olivia Gauthier was tabbed Defensive Player of the Week, sophomore Elizabeth Moberg earned Goalkeeper of the Week and freshman Tanya Boychuk was named the league's Rookie of the Week. Monday's awards mark the first time in The American history one team has won all four categories in the same week.
Against Houston, Larisey tallied a career-high two assists, including the helper on the game-winning goal, to help Memphis past the Cougars 4-0. On Sunday, the Ottawa, Ontario native notched the game-winning goal on a breakaway score against SMU, her second game-winner of the season. Monday's award marks the fourth time she has been named Offensive Player of the Week this season.
Gauthier began the week helping Memphis pitch its 10th shutout of the season and also registered a shot on goal at Houston. Trailing 1-0 at SMU on Sunday, the senior assisted on the Tigers' equalizing goal off a corner kick while also logging three shots on goal throughout the match. After being listed to the league's Honor Roll, Monday's honor is Gauthier's second weekly accolade this season and sixth of her career.
In goal, Moberg improved her record to 12-1 after the two wins, highlighted by her nation-leading 10th shutout against Houston. The Port Saint Lucie, Fla., native stopped seven shots throughout the week to help Memphis to a 4-0 start in league play. Moberg has now earned AAC Goalkeeper of the Week status for the third time this season while collected her fifth career weekly honor.
Boychuk garnered her first career AAC accolade. Against Houston the Edmonton, Alberta product notched the team's game-winning goal, which was also her second collegiate score. Boychuk finished the week with three shots on goal and has scored in two of the last four contests.
Memphis returns to Mike Rose Soccer Complex to host UCF and USF this week, beginning with a 7 p.m. contest against the Knights on Thursday.
