Women’s Golf Remains Seventh at Magnolia Invitational

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis remains in a tie for seventh place following the completion of the second round of play at the Magnolia Invitational at Old Waverly Golf Club Monday. The Lady Tigers posted a 288 to remain in seventh at 587, tied with Mississippi State's B entry. Kennesaw State fired a 283 to take the team lead at 571. Mississippi State's A unit is second at 572 and Oklahoma is third at 579.
Michaela Fletcher and Abby Herrmann are each tied for 16that 145. Fletcher carded two birdies on her front nine and was -2 when a double on 14 pushed her back to even, where she finished the day. Herrmann opened her day with a birdie on one, but that was her lone one on the day as she finished at 74 (+2).
Sydney Colwill opened her day with four birdies on the front side to offset a trio of bogeys and to be at -1 at the turn. A double on 12 pushed her to one over and back-to-back bogeys on 13 and 14 pushed her to +3. She finished with a flourish though, birdying 17 to get to the clubhouse with a 74 (+2). Her 149 has her tied for 36thoverall.
Senior Madison Thomas was the biggest mover of the day, jumping 23 spots thanks to three birdies and an eagle. Thomas bogeyed one, but closed the front half with birdies on five and nine to make her turn at one under. Back-to-back bogeys on ten and 11 pushed her over at +1, but she stopped the additional strokes there with an eagle on the 499-yard, par 5 15thhole. A birdie on 16 then pushed her to -2, where she finished the day (70). Her 151 has her tied for 45thoverall.
Freshman Ana Dawson also made a big jump in the standings thanks to an even par (72) round. Dawson carded two birdies on the front nine and added a third on hole ten to move to -3. But she found trouble on 12, where a triple pushed her back to even. She bounced back with back-to-back pars and a birdie on 15 moved her back under par at -1. On 18, she bogeyed and finished the round even. Her 152 moves her to a tie for 51stoverall.
Auburn's Anika Bolcikova jumped to the individual lead on Monday, with a second round 66. Her 137 gives her a three-stroke lead heading into Tuesday's final round over East Tennessee State's Tereza Melecka. Kennesaw State has a pair of teammates tied for third, Clara Aveling and Roanne Tomlinson, with Mississippi State's Hannah Levi making up the trio at third.
Tuesday's final round will begin with an 8 am shotgun start. Memphis players will be teamed with players from Coastal Carolina and East Tennessee State and will go off holes 11 through 15.
