Fourth Quarter Rally Falls Short As Shockers Down The Tigers

Five Tigers score in double-digits in the setback, led by Elmore’s 15
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis women's basketball team had a fourth-quarter rally fall short as the Tigers fell to Wichita State by a score of 77-64 Saturday afternoon. Memphis drops to 7-14 on the year and 2-6 in American Athletic Conference play.

How It Happened
Memphis knocked down a pair of three-pointers by Taylor Barnes and Cheyenne Creighton to open the contest on a 6-2 run. Wichita State had an answer with an 11-0 run to take over the lead.

Down six through 10 minutes of play, Memphis cut the Wichita State lead to five at the intermission. Memphis' offense picked up in the second quarter with 19 points, led by Creighton and Brea Elmore's five points each. Alana Davis picked up four of her 10 total points in the second on putback lay-ups after an offensive rebound.

Wichita State broadened the gap in the third quarter, holding Memphis to 13 points. Barnes and Brea Elmore joined Cheyenne Creighton as double-digit scorers in the third. Alana Davis became the fourth Tiger in double-digits in the fourth quarter, marking the first time since the Vanderbilt win Memphis had four players in double-figures.

The Tigers had cut the Wichita State lead down to seven with 3:01 remaining in the game on Jada Stinson's fourth three-pointer of the contest, but an 8-0 by Wichita State run at the free throw line kept the game out of reach of Memphis.

After Wichita State rattled off an 11-0 run in the first quarter, Memphis was never able to regain the lead. Memphis came within three on several occasions in the first half, but another run in the third quarter by Wichita State put the game all but out of reach of the Tigers.
