TULSA, Okla. – In the middle of the third quarter, senior forward Cheyenne Creighton scored her 1,000th career point and helped ignite a Memphis offense into a 69-48 victory over Tulsa Saturday afternoon. Creighton became the 24th player in program history and sixth under McFerrin to eclipse the milestone. The Tigers improve to 7-10 on and year and 2-2 in American Athletic Conference play.

How It Happened
Defense was the name of the game in the first quarter as both teams struggled to get on the board until the first media timeout. After Tulsa scored first on a made free throw, the Tigers put together an 8-5 run capped with Brea Elmore's first basket of the game to have an early first quarter lead.
Â
Tulsa's three-point shooting was ignited in the second quarter as the Golden Hurricane made three, three-pointers to regain the lead over Memphis. Cheyenne Creighton scored seven of her points in the second 10 minutes of action to pull within one point of 1,000 career points at the break.
Â
With 4:20 left in the third quarter, Creighton hit the basket she needed to join the 1,000-point club at Memphis. Creighton along with key efforts from Elmore and Jada Stinson ignited the Memphis offense into a 21-point third quarter and a three-point lead with 10 minutes remaining. The quarter ended with back-to-back three's by Elmore and Stinson. In that span, Memphis held Tulsa to just 11 points.
Â
Memphis continued to build upon that third-quarter momentum and scored a season-high 27 points in the final quarter of action. Solid offense turned into better defense as Tulsa was held to just nine points in the fourth quarter.
Â
Turning Point
The Tigers rattled off a 21-point third quarter while holding Tulsa to just 11 points. Brea Elmore and Jada Stinson hit back-to-back three-pointers at the end of the third quarter to give Memphis the lead. The third quarter momentum turned into a season-high 27 points in the fourth quarter including a perfect 9-for-9 effort at the free throw line for Cheyenne Creighton to push the Tigers past Tulsa.

Notables
Melissa McFerrin Quotable
Cheyenne Creighton is probably the most conscientious player that I've ever coached. She is so conscientious on how she practices and how she performs. She makes very minimal mistakes. I think she's just a great story of the natural progression of a four-year player.
