Tigers Football Falls At UCF Saturday

The UCF defense forced four Tigers turnovers and held the Memphis offense to 396 total yards in posting a victory in the American Athletic Conference opener for both teams. UCF had over 600 yards of total offense and dominated the time of possession, holding on to the ball for over 37 minutes.

How It Happened
- UCF struck first on its opening possession with a 17-play, 92-yard touchdown drive. The Knights held the ball for nearly seven minutes. UCF attempted a two-point conversion, but was unsuccessful.
- Memphis answered quickly on its first possession of the game, moving the ball 71 yards in just under three minutes. The Tigers scored on a two-yard Patrick Taylor Jr. run, and with a Spencer Smith PAT, took a 7-6 lead.
- The game had a back-and-forth change of possessions over the remainder of the first quarter.
- UCF broke the game's 11:26 scoreless stretch with a 28-yard FG to grab a 9-7 lead with 8:29 left before halftime.
- The Knights broke the game open in the first half's final five minutes.
- After a Memphis punt pinned UCF inside its own 10-yard line, the Knights scored on their first play of the drive. Following a UCF penalty, Adrian Killins Jr. ran 96 yards for a score and a 16-7 UCF lead.
- After a Knights interception, the UCF offense was set up with a short field and took advantage of it. The Knights scored a touchdown on a 34-yard pass from McKenzie Milton to Tre'Quan Smith for a 23-7 lead at the break.
- After halftime, UCF continued to have the momentum and scored on its first possession to increase its advantage to 30-7. The Knights added another touchdown and field goal to close out their scoring.
- Memphis scored its second touchdown on the game's final play. Riley Ferguson hit Damonte Coxie from 14 yards out for the score. It was Coxie's first career touchdown.
