Tigers to play UCA, Little Rock, UT Martin this weekend.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis volleyball team travels to Conway, Ark., this weekend (Sept. 1-2) to compete in the Central Arkansas Invitational. After falling short in matches at last week's Eastern Illinois Panther Invitational, the Tigers are looking for "bounce-back" performances at Central Arkansas.

Seven newcomers saw their first NCAA Division I match action last week, and head coach April Jauregui is keeping the team's spirits positive as the Tigers make adjustments for this weekend's three matches.

Head coach April Jauregui comments on UCA Invitational, look-back to opening weekend
"This weekend's tournament is similar to last week. All the teams are good and very even across the board. It's going to be a competitive tournament there, and Central Arkansas always draws great crowds for volleyball. We're excited about this road trip. We want to work out our kinks and get better results this weekend.

"The Eastern Illinois Invitational was a solid tournament. We didn't start as strong as we wanted to last Friday. We're still trying to tweak a few things lineup-wise, and that's understandable since we had seven newcomers playing. The Eastern Illinois match was extremely competitive and went down to the wire. Unfortunately, we had a short break after Eastern Illinois to prepare for our next match. We competed hard and were right there with Green Bay, but we hit a wall after playing five-straight hours of volleyball. We showed some good signs, and we're excited – with a few tweaks – about going into this weekend's action. We're trying to keep our spirits up because we are a young, but talented team."

Tigers Tidbits

The Tigers are opening a season with back-to-back road tournaments for the first time since 2015 and the sixth time since the turn of the century (2001, 2006, 2007, 2010, 2015, 2017).
Memphis is making its first trip to Conway, Ark., since the 2010 season. The Tigers fell to Central Arkansas in the Bears' home tournament that year.
Freshman Alyssa Kronberg leads The American in digs per set (5.92) and is second in total digs (77). She was named to the American Athletic Conference Weekly Honor Roll for her performance at the Eastern Illinois Panther Invitational.
Alyssa Kronberg is ranked among NCAA statistical leaders in digs per set (20^th) and total digs (13^th).
Sophomore Brianna Kadiku is fourth in the conference in hitting percentage (.419). She is 19^th in kills per set (2.62).
Brianna Kadiku was named to the Eastern Illinois Panther Invitational All-Tournament Team. It was her first career in-season tournament honor.
