MEMPHIS, Tenn. – University of Memphis head men's golf coach Blake Smart has announced the addition of two players for the 2017-18 season in Bradley Bawden and Borja Martin Torre.
Bawden, a native of Hockley, England, was named a junior college PING First Team All-American by the Golf Coaches Association of America. He helped his Titan squad to a third place finish at the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Championships with an individual seventh-place finish, carding a four-round total of 292 (+4).
"Brad is bringing with him two years of experience from a great junior college program at Eastern Florida State," said Smart. "He is coming off a First Team All-American year, and will be a fixture in our lineup. Brad has a really solid all-around game and I am looking forward to getting him on campus to help him accomplish his goals for the next two seasons."
Bawden finished inside of the top-20 in all 10 individual events during the season, including eight top-10 finishes and two medalist honors (at the Faulkner State Invitational and the Wallace State Fall Invitational). For the season he averaged 72.7 strokes per round, finishing below par in three different tournaments.
Torre, a native of San Sebastian, Spain, has finished second at the Copa Puerta Hierro Tournament, third at the Spanish Amateur, second at the U18 Spanish Amateur, fifth at Copa Beleares, and seventh at the Europeans Men's Club Trophy Tournament.
"Borja is bringing solid international experience with him to Memphis and I expect him to make an immediate impact on the lineup in the Fall," said Smart. "He has been a part of the Spanish National Team for several years and has benefitted from quality coaching and playing opportunities. My favorite part about Borja is his competiveness and attention to detail, which will be a great fit for our program."
