Men's Golf to Close Regular Season at Conference Championships

PALM HARBOR, Fla. - The Memphis men's golf team closes its 2016-17 regular season over the coming weekend at the 2017 American Athletic Conference Championships, hosted at Innisbrook Golf Resort in Palm Harbor Florida.
"Post-season is always an exciting time of year and having the AAC championship at a venue like the Copperhead course adds to that," said Memphis head coach Blake Smart. "We are coming off one of our best rounds of the year and I'm excited to see what we are capable of with our backs against the wall."

MEMPHIS IN THE AAC CHAMPIONSHIPS
Last season at the Black Diamond Ranch course in Lacanto, Florida, the Memphis Tigers took second in the field shooting a combined one stroke over par over the three rounds. Leading the way for Memphis in the weekend was Thomas Perrot, who finished six strokes under par, and was individual runner-up, while Lars van Meijel finished two strokes over par. Sydney Chung, the only player on this years' lineup that competed for Memphis last season, finished eight strokes over par, including a three-under par second round.
The Tigers also finished fifth in 2015 and seventh in 2014. The 2014 season was the first for the conference, and was also played at the Copperhead Course at Innisbrook Resort.
LAST TIME OUT
The Tigers put together their best round of the season in the final round of The Maxwell, a loaded field that saw Memphis take 12th overall. The team's final-round 285 was the fourth-best on the day in the field, as Memphis beat American Athletic Conference opponents SMU and East Carolina. Sydney Chung tied for 23rd in the field with an 8-over 218 for the three rounds, while JC Campbell and Colin Dubnik carded scores of 224 (+14) and 226 (+16).
