Memphis wins doubles point, but falls 4-1.
MEMPHIS – The Memphis women's tennis team (10-6) won the doubles point, but could not hold off North Texas (7-11), Saturday, in a non-conference match, 4-1.
North Texas got the first win of the afternoon, 6-2, at one doubles. The Tiger pairing of senior Marta Morga and freshman Katherine Cao then tied the fight for the doubles point with a 6-2 win at two doubles.
That left the team of Hanna Sohn and Clara Kuehn on the court. Kuehn was playing in just her second dual season doubles match of the season with redshirt junior Anki Wind out of the lineup due to injury. And Sohn and Kuehn put Memphis up 1-0 with a 6-4 win.
Kuehn then slid in to the six singles lineup spot and won her opening set, 7-6. But before Kuehn could try to pick up the win in her third set, North Texas had booked straight set wins at one, two, four and five singles for the victory.
Memphis is now done with its 2017 home schedule and will close out the regular season on the road next weekend. Memphis will play at Xavier, Friday, and at conference foe Cincinnati, Saturday.
