Softball Sweeps Saturday; Johnson Hits Walk-Off Home Run

Memphis improves to 4-0 in the Blues City Classic
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – A complete games by Christian Novak and Katie Brignac combined with timely hits and a walk-off home run by Tyler Johnson in game two led the University of Memphis softball team to a Saturday sweep over Louisiana Tech and Wright State. The Tigers defeated the Lady Techsters by a score of 5-2 before shutting out Wright State, 1-0.

The Tigers scored one in the first and two in the third to take an early 3-0 lead over the visiting Lady Techsters. One of the three runs scored early was off of a triple by Lindsay Crowdus.

Louisiana Tech got two runs back in the fifth, one a solo home run, to cut the Tiger lead down to two, 4-2. Memphis answered with one more in the bottom half of the fifth after Addison Maxwell and Lindsay Crowdus registered a pair of hits and forced a throwing error by the Louisiana Tech catcher.

Against Wright State, the two teams remained scoreless through the first six and a half innings of play. The difference in the game was a solo home run to left center field by Tyler Johnson to improve Memphis to 4-0 in the Blues City Classic and 8-7 overall.

Who Stood Out
Lindsay Crowdus / CF / Senior / Houma, La.
Crowdus finished the day going 4-for-6 from the plate with a pair of stolen bases and a triple. Her triple against Louisiana Tech was her fifth this season and 19th in her career. She now one of four players in Memphis history to have over 40 stolen bases in their career.

Kyler Trosclair / SS / Junior / Houma, La.
Trosclair went 3-for-5 from the plate with a double and a stolen base. She registered three hits in the win over Wright State.

Christian Novak / P / R-Junior / Nevada, Mo.
Novak struck out four and pitched a complete game en route to her seven victory of the season. She allowed six hits and held her opponents to a .222 batting average.

Katie Brignac / P / Junior / River Ridge, La.
Brignac pitched a complete game shutout with four strikeouts against Wright State. She improves to 2-0 on the year.

Tyler Johnson / INF / Sophomore / Lakewood, Calif.
Johnson connected on a 3-1 pitch in the bottom of the seventh inning against Wright State and sent it over the left center field fence to lift Memphis to a 1-0 victory. She finished the day going 2-for-4 with two RBI.

- Bottom 3 – Hannah Harrell got on base with a single to the shortstop. She moved around to second on a stolen base and came around to score on a Crowdus triple. Crowdus then scored on a wild pitch. (2 runs, 2 hits, 0 errors, 0 left on base)
- Bottom 4 – Erin Parker led the inning off with a single to right. She came around to score on a double by Tyler Johnson. (1 run, 2 hits, 0 errors, 1 left on base)
- Top 5 – A home run to left field by Katie Smith put the Lady Techsters on the board. A pair of doubles to follow scored the second run of the game. (2 runs, 3 hits, 0 errors, 1 left on base)
- Bottom 5 – A pair of singles in addition to a pair of stolen bases by Maxwell and Crowdus once again led to a situation where Maxwell scored on an error. (1 run, 2 hits, 1 error, 1 left on base)
