The Tigers pounded out 13 runs on 13 hits against Mississippi Valley
The game didn't start very well for the Tigers as Mississippi Valley scored three in the top of the first inning. A hit batter, a single and then a three-base error allowed two runs to score before an out was even recorded. A sacrifice fly made the score 3-0.
Memphis starting pitcher Danny Denz settled in after that rocky start and allowed just the three runs, of which only one was earned, in five innings pitched. He struck out five and didn't walk a batter to earn his first career win.
Memphis got a run back in the bottom of the first after Brandon Grudzielanek doubled with two outs and Zach Schritenthal singled to drive him in.
The Tigers did some more damage in the second, taking the lead for good on a four-run inning. In the inning Memphis used two doubles, three walks and a hit batter.
Grudzielanek finished 2-for-6 with two doubles, two RBI and a run scored. Trent Turner also had two doubles, driving in three runs and scoring two. Schritenthal had a three-hit game, driving in one run and scoring one run. Nick Vaage had two hits and scored three runs.
In all, Memphis hitters combined for seven doubles in the game. The Tigers scored one more in the third, sixth and seventh and put the game to bed with a five-run eighth inning.
Ryan Garner, Takoda Metoxen, Blake Bennet and Taylor Bobo each pitched an inning of relief to finish off the Delta Devils.
Next up for Memphis is the first weekend road trip of the season, to Missouri State March 17-19.
