Tigers to play against some of the region’s toughest teams
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis women's soccer team will play a six-game spring schedule that includes some of the region's top Division I teams as well as a club team from Canada, head coach Brooks Monaghan announced Tuesday.
"We feel like we have a good spring schedule that will definitely test us," Monaghan said. "We are obviously playing some quality opponents and this year it is a bit of a bonus to be able to play Toronto Blizzard coming down from Canada. The rules allow us to play on a sixth date if you play against an international opponent. I think with this schedule and these type of opponents it will allow us to gauge where we are at moving towards the fall."
The Tigers will play will play five Division I opponents, with the first being UAB on the Memphis Park Avenue Campus on March 25 at noon. Memphis and UAB played in Birmingham during the 2015 regular-season, with the Tigers coming out on top 1-0. The two teams met again in Birmingham last spring.
Ole Miss will host the Tigers on March 30 in Oxford. The Tigers knocked off a ranked Rebels' squad 2-1 last fall. Serena Dolan and Marie Levasseur scored the goals in that match.
Memphis will start the month of April with a trip to Western Kentucky. The Tigers hosted the Hilltoppers during the first weekend of the fall in 2016, winning 2-0.
The Alabama Crimson Tide will return to Memphis for the first time since the 2015 season opener when the Tigers won 1-0 on a goal from Elizabeth Woerner.
Memphis will close out the spring by hosting Arkansas State at Mike Rose Soccer Complex on April 13.
