Women’s Basketball Heads To Vanderbilt Saturday

Tigers will look to win second-straight and first game over Vandy in Nashville
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis women's basketball team has had a week off of action and will now head to Nashville, Tenn. for a Saturday night game against SEC foe Vanderbilt. Tipoff at Memorial Gym is slated for 6 p.m. and will be on SECN+.

Memphis comes off of a 64-62 victory over UAB last Saturday afternoon. Cheyenne Creighton and Taylor Barnes led the scoring efforts with 17 points apiece and Creighton posted her fifth double-double with a career-high 14 rebounds. The Tigers have three games remaining before Christmas break and the Vanderbilt contest is the last road non-conference bout.
Going into Saturday's game against the Commodores, here are five things to know about the Memphis women's basketball team:
A Look At Vanderbilt
Vanderbilt comes into the Saturday matchup with a 3-7 overall record and wins against George Washington, Saint Louis, and Iowa State. Most recently on Dec. 7, the Commodores suffered a 79-57 setback to Louisville.
Two players are averaging in double figures for the Commodores in Rachel Bell and Chelsie Hall. Bell is leading the team with 14.4 points per game. As a freshman, Autumn Newby leads the team in rebounding with 8.0 per contest. She has started and played in nine of the 10 Vanderbilt games this season.
Stephanie White is the head coach of the Commodores and she is currently in her second season at the helm.
Series History With Vanderbilt
Vanderbilt holds a 10-3 advantage over the Tigers all-time. Last season, Memphis snapped an eight-game skid against the Commodores with a 75-59 victory at the Elma Roane Fieldhouse. It was the first win in almost 30 years.
Memphis will also be looking for its first road win against Vanderbilt. All three of the Tigers' wins against Vandy have come at home.

- Creighton is quickly closing in on the 1,000-point milestone after posting 17 points in the win over UAB. She currently is 106 shy of becoming the 24th player in program history to reach the milestone.
- Creighton also ranks 21st in the nation with five double-doubles. In her career, Creighton has a total of 13 double-doubles, a total that only 12 other players have achieved in their Memphis careers.
- Taylor Barnes scored a season-high 17 points in the win over UAB. Barnes helped lead the Tigers in the big third quarter that helped push Memphis past the Blazers. The win over UAB was the sixth-straight over the former conference foe.
- The Tigers gladly welcomed back to the court Brianna Porter last Saturday. After missing the first nine games due to an injury, Porter played in 30 minutes against the Blazers and pulled down seven rebounds with two blocks for Memphis.
- With players returning to the court, team chemistry is consistently improving for Memphis. Against UAB, the Tigers gave up a season-low 11 turnovers including just three in the second half.
