Tigers Take On SMU On The Road Tuesday

Memphis seeks third-straight win with road trip to SMU
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis women's basketball team seeks its third-straight victory Tuesday night as the Tigers take on the Mustangs of SMU at Moody Coliseum in Dallas, Texas. Tip-off against SMU is set for 7:05 p.m. and the game will broadcast on the American Digital Network.

Memphis is coming off of a two-win week, with victories over Houston and UCF at the Elma Roane Fieldhouse. The wins improved the Tigers to 10-11 on the year and 3-5 in American Athletic Conference play, good enough to sit in a tie for sixth place with UCF. The Tigers have the advantage over UCF after defeating the Knights twice this season.

In the victory over Houston, junior forward Cheyenne Creighton scored 23 points and pulled down 12 rebounds to help lead Memphis to victory. In addition to Creighton's efforts, Taylor Williams scored 16 points on 6-for-13 shooting from the field and Damonique Miller scored a career-high 12 points for the Tigers.

The win over Houston was the first win this season where Memphis overcame a halftime deficit. The Tigers then made it two comeback games in a row after defeating UCF on Saturday.

In Saturday's Play4Kay game, the Tigers overcame a seven-point UCF halftime lead to defeat the Knights by a score of 65-59. Brea Elmore led the Tigers with 22 points and as a result of her efforts, she was named to the American Athletic Conference Weekly Honor Roll for the first time in her career.

Elmore leads the Tigers during conference play with 14.4 points per game. She is averaging 3.4 rebounds per game and is shooting almost 40 percent from beyond the arc. She also leads the team from the line during conference play by making 20 of her 24 attempts.Â

The Tigers are coached by Melissa McFerrin who is in her ninth season at the helm of the Memphis program. With the win over UCF, McFerrin has now won 200 games in her career and 150 games at Memphis.

A Look At SMU
SMU comes into the Tuesday night contest with an 11-10 overall record and 2-6 mark in the American Athletic Conference. The Mustangs have fallen victim in their last two games against South Florida and Tulsa. At home, SMU boasts a 7-3 record. Only one of those wins were in conference play.Â

Alicia Froling leads the team offensively with 14.9 points per game and 10.6 rebounds per game. She is a 53.1 percent shooter from the field and has made 70.6 percent of her 126 free throws this season. McKenzie Adams also is averaging in double figures with 11.9 points per game.Â

Travis Mays is the head coach of the Mustangs and he is in his first season at the helm. His previous stop was as an associate head coach at Texas, his alma mater.Â
