Memphis downs Chattanooga in neutral site match.
MEMPHIS – The University of Memphis women's tennis team (3-0) downed in-state foe Chattanooga (3-2), Sunday.
"Great effort today by our team," head coach Hayden Perez said. "We were tested at a few positions in today's match and I was proud of how the girls responded. We are also starting to play some good doubles and that is exciting to see."
Memphis got on the board first because of the doubles play. The team of seniors Gabrielle Paul and Marta Morga got Memphis' first win of the day, 6-2, at three doubles, then the team of Hanna Paul and Josephine Paul sealed the Tiger doubles point win with a 6-2 decision at two doubles.
Chattanooga evened the match with a straight set, 6-3, 6-1, win at number four singles, but Hanna Sohn answered back with a 6-4, 6-1 win at two for a 2-1 Memphis lead. Katherine Cao stretched that lead to 3-1 with a 6-4, 6-2, at five and Anki Wind sealed the match with a super tiebreak win at one singles.
Since the teams were playing on a neutral court and both had travel back to campus on Sunday, the remainder of the singles matches were suspended.
Memphis will travel to Baton Rouge to face LSU, Saturday, for their next match.
