Cheyenne Creighton recorded her sixth double-double of the season after scoring a team-high 23 points and pulling down 12 rebounds in the win over Houston. In addition to Creighton, Taylor Williams added 16 points and Damonique Miller came off the bench and scored a career-high 12 points for the Tigers.
Â
Miller played a very influential role in the win over Houston. With the Tigers down 14 in the second quarter, a steal and lay-up by Miller jump started the Tiger offense and Memphis continued to claw its way back into the game after that point. The win over Houston was the first win this season where the Tigers were down at the half and came back to win.
Â
Memphis recorded its ninth 10+-steal performance against the Cougars to improve its season average to 9.6 steals per game. That total ranks third in the American Athletic Conference behind UCF and UConn.
Â
Creighton continues to lead the Tigers with 15.1 points and 7.9 rebounds per game. Creighton is one of just four players in the league to rank in the top nine in points and rebounds and in minutes played, she ranks third.
Â
Memphis is currently in a tie for seventh overall in the American Athletic Conference standings with SMU.
Â
The Tigers are coached by Melissa McFerrin who is in her ninth season at the helm of the Memphis program. McFerrin is now just one win shy of 200 in her career and one away from 150 total wins at Memphis.
Â
A Look At UCF
UCF comes into the weekend with a 13-7 overall record and 3-4 mark in the American Athletic Conference. Since falling to Memphis on Jan. 7, the Knights are 3-1. UCF is currently sixth in the American Athletic Conference.
Â
Zykira Lewis leads the team offensively with 15.0 points per game and is closely followed by Aliyah Gregory with 13.9 points per game. Joslyn Massey is the leading rebounding for the Knights with 7.3 per contest.
Â
UCF is outscoring its opponents this season 63.6 to 55.0 and outrebounding them 40.9 to 30.8.
Â
Katie Abrahamson-Henderson is the head coach of the Knights and is currently in her first season at the helm. The Iowa graduate was the head coach of Albany prior to UCF where she took the team to five NCAA Tournaments. Abrahamson-Henderson was also the head coach of Missouri State from 2002-07 where she took the team to the NCAA Tournament three times.
Â
Last Time Out at UCF
On the road at UCF, Brea Elmore exploded offensively for a career-high 25 points in 36 minutes of action. It was the second 20+-point contest for Elmore this season.Â
Â
Memphis overcame a 17-2 UCF run in the third quarter by scoring six-straight at the start of the fourth to regain the lead. UCF got in foul trouble in the fourth and despite earlier in the game, the Tigers remained disciplined by keeping the Knights off of the charity stripe.
