COLLEGE GROVE, Tenn. - The Memphis Tiger men's golf program closed out play at the Franklin American Mortgage Company Intercollegiate by shooting a 300, and the team finished the tournament in ninth place in the field.
Ole Miss took home the team title in the event with a three-round total of 868, six strokes ahead of second place Kennesaw State.
Leading the way on the final day for the Tigers was the duo of Kevin lee and JC Campbell, who each carded a 74, while Sydney Chung and Camden Backel each shot a 76 on the par-72, 7,368-yard course.
Lee opened his round with three straight pars before shooting one of two bogeys on the day. After four more pars, Lee followed with his second and final bogy on the ninth hole, sending him into the turn two strokes over par.
His back nine started with six consecutive pars, before he knocked in his first birdie of the day on the par-four 16th hole. He followed with a double bogey on the 17th, but closed his round with a positive note, his second birdie of the round on the par-five 18th hole, sending him into the clubhouse with a two-over 74.
Campbell had a rocky front nine with four bogeys and five pars, as the sophomore made the turn at four strokes over par. He opened the back nine with his first birdie of the day on the par-four 10th hole, before recording a bogey on the par-three 13th hole. He closed strong in the round with two birdies over the final three holes, ending the day with a two-over par 74, and a six-over par final score.
Senior Sydney Chung struggled out of the gate, with two double bogeys and a bogey over the first five holes. Standing five strokes over par through five holes, he closed the round strong with four birdies, three bogeys, and six pars, closing the day four strokes over par, and eight strokes over par for the three rounds.Â
Sophomore transfer Camden Backel opened his day strong with six straight pars to open his day, while recording a birdie on his seventh hole. A bogey on the eighth holeput him back at even par, where he stood until the 13th hole, where he notched his second bogey. He stumbled down the stetch with three bogeys over the final four holes, and closed the day with a four-over par 76, and was seven over par for the tournament.
Freshman Nick Giles closed his second collegiate tournament with a 10-over par 82, with a round that had eight bogeys, a double bogey, and nine pars. He finished the tournament 12 strokes over par.Â
The Tigers return to action on Monday, September 26 when the program hosts the Memphis Intercollegiate at Colonial Country Club.
